The early bird...

A healthy morning routine sets a positive tone for the day and can improve your productivity, your mood, and your overall well-being. 

 

If you are not an early bird but you would like to work towards earlier mornings, here are a few tips:

 

Start small. Start by waking up a few minutes earlier, with no agenda. Once this becomes a habit, choose your goal.

 

Choose a goal. Do you want to meditate or stretch for 5-10 minutes, go on a short walk, or get a workout in before work? Pick your goal.

 

Plan ahead. If your goal is meditation or stretching, then set your mat out. If you want to drink a glass of water every morning, set your glass out next to the coffee maker as a reminder. If you want to complete a workout, pick it out the night before, review the workout, and have your workout clothes, space, and equipment ready. If you want to go on a walk, keep your shoes by the door.

 

If possible, go to bed a bit earlier. Start with 30 minutes earlier and build from there. When you start waking up earlier and exercising, this becomes much easier to do because you will be tired.

 

Practice discipline. This is the hard part. Do you think about brushing your teeth every morning? Probably not because it is a habit. You can apply this principle to anything you want; it just takes time, consistency, and discipline to do the thing, even when you don't feel like it.

 

Repeat. Once you have added one healthy habit to your morning routine, you can consider adding another.
